Eleven touchdowns, 77 points and nearly 900 yards of offense.
Yep, I guess that would qualify as a shootout.
Unfortunately for the Pioneers, they ran out of bullets first as the Danvers Falcons outscored Lynnfield 42-35 in one of the most wide open high school games I have ever seen.
You can get all the details in my Villager game story on Wednesday, but suffice to say that neither team had their defensive cleats on.
The Pioneers fell into an early 14-0 hole, fought back with three unanswered touchdowns to take a 21-14 lead before falling behind again 35-21. They could never get the lead back as they traded haymakers with the Falcons for the rest of the way before ultimately running out of time.
It was another big night for quarterback Mike Karavetsos who threw two more touchdown passes and ran for another and also punched in a two point conversion.
Sophomore Kyle McGah, filling in for injured tri-captain Mike Thomas, scored twice. Thomas is lost for the season as a result of a broken collarbone suffered against St. Mary's.
Steve Yobaccio and Nico Varano each caught TD passes. Alex Roper was 3 for 4 on PAT tries.
Exciting but ultimately a dissapointing Pioneer loss.
That's it for now. Check back Sunday night for my Leftovers post.
